Looked up Ferguson, and wished he hadn't - Ferguson had died a year before, of cancer. He hadn't even known this Ferguson, but that didn't change how much it hurt.

Got as far as typing his mom's maiden name into Google, but never as far as hitting "search." After Ferguson, the desire to know didn't quite outweigh the concern for what he might find out that he didn't want to know.

Tracked down a friend of a young cousin's, in his universe, who knew how to do things with computers that didn't leave traces. Gave the best explanation he could, and got her to find Sam and Daniel, their addresses and phone numbers. It wasn't safe to go, or even to call, but knowing where they were, how to get hold of them if he needed to, made him feel oddly better.

Made friends with Heather's son, who liked to hear the stories that Cam "made up" about a team of two air force officers, a scientist and two people from other planets, the adventures that they had together and the ways they saved the world. "You should write a book," Heather said, laughing as he regaled the two of them with the treasure hunt Vala had taken them on when he'd first met her. "I don't think that'd be a good idea," he said.

Lay awake in a house that would never feel like home, dreaming up ways to get home, ways to get off the planet, ways to save the world when the inevitable happened and the Ori showed up. Ways to get to them without being found. Ways for the three of them to get away together and disappear. Ways out, even if he knew they'd never be able to take any of them.
