Feedback: Yes please. Even if it's bad. Especially if it's bad.

"FBI?" Lorne says, when they get through hey, what a surprise, imagine running into you here, how are you doing, *what* are you doing? He's grinning, and Colby shrugs. "That's... actually not that hard to picture."

"Thanks," Colby says. "I think."

Lorne laughs. He looks about a thousand times more relaxed than he did the last time Colby saw him, which is saying a lot, since the last time Colby saw him was in Afghanistan. He also looks a lot cleaner, but that's probably just because he has access to regular showers and isn't wearing a uniform.

Civilian clothes definitely suit him.

"You're shipping back out?" he asks.

Lorne makes a complicated face that Colby can't decipher. "More or less. Day after tomorrow, I've got to report for briefing tomorrow morning."

Classified, Colby decides. There goes that line of conversation.

"I've got a late flight," Lorne says. "Want to grab dinner, keep me company?"

Lorne doesn't drink with dinner, which means Colby can't either, so he has no excuse for the way he keeps finding himself staring at Lorne, his dry half smile, his fingers on the stem of his fork. Shipping back out in a couple of days, and Lorne's not a fighter pilot but he'll still be up there in unfriendly skies, making himself an easy target. Being left behind, Colby decides over coffee, is not all it's cracked up to be, and it's not cracked up to be much to begin with.

Lorne touches his fingers to Colby's when they both reach for the check, and Colby can feel the electricity jump between them, enough to make him gasp. Lorne looks away, but Colby can see the flush starting. It probably shouldn't make him smile, but it does.

"What time's your flight?" he asks.

"Half past midnight," Lorne says.

"Come back to my place, I'll give you a ride to the airport later," Colby says, and Lorne meets his eyes and nods.

Colby doesn't even bother to turn the light on when he closes the door to his apartment – he's only been living there five minutes as it is, most of his stuff is still in boxes – just pushes Lorne back against the door and holds him there.

"Where you're going," he says, "Is it dangerous?"

Lorne's eyes are bright and dark in the streetlight from outside. He's completely still under Colby's hands, but tense, like he'll push Colby away any second. "Probably," he says. "I don't know the details yet."

Colby nods. He knows more than he wants to about maybe last chances. "Try not to get killed," he says.

Lorne nods at the wrong moment, bumping Colby's nose with his cheek. It should be funny, but in the dark, Colby feels wound too tight to laugh. He adjusts instead, presses his mouth to Lorne's until Lorne sighs and opens up for him, and they kiss in the dark for what feels like forever.
